Inherent talent, Unflinching dedication, rigorous training and above all the benediction
of her Guru have shaped Swati into an accomplished dancer.
She is well known for her adherence to the purity of the traditional art form, deft
and intricate footwork, vivacious body movements. Delicate and subtle abhinaya has
become her forte.
Swati’s rendezvous with Kathak started when she was seven years old under
the able guidance of Guru Rajendra Gangani, a leading exponent of the Jaipur style.
She was a scholarship holder throughout her studentship at Kathak Kendra. Later
she was awarded the scholarship instituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
She is an A grade artist of Doordarshan and her performance was aired on the National
Channel. Swati is also an empanelled artist of the ICCR (Indian Council of Cultural
Relations).
Swati’s solo performances are very well received by the audiences and critics
alike. She had the opportunity to perform in her Guru’s choreographies such
as Leela Varnan, Rag Vistar, Vedna etc.She has toured the Gulf countries, Central
Europe and USA for her performances.
Swati’s performance in dance festivals such as the Konark Festival (Puri),
Swami Haridas Sangeet Samaroh (Vrindavan), Kathak Mahotsava(Delhi),Soorya Festival
(Trivandrum), Pratibha Utsav (Delhi),Young dancers Festival (Lucknow), Holi utsav(Vrindavan)
etc received very good reviews. Her deft and intricate footwork, vivacious body
movements and subtle abhinaya impressed audiences and critics alike.
She was a member of the cultural delegation which visited Iceland with the President
of India Shri A.P.J Abdul Kalam. Her fusion of Kathak with Bharatnatyam
and Mohiniattam was very much appreciated. She presented a duet with Flamenco dance,
a Spanish dance style, in Delhi which demonstrated her experimental and innovative
capabilities
Swati has also choreographed items for the opening ceremony of the youth festival
held in Hyderabad, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Dandi March in
Baroda and also for the ‘International dance day’ in Patiala.
Swati has conducted workshops for the Sahitya Kala Parishad. She was blessed with
the opportunity of working as a co-trainer with her Guru in his workshops in Nagpur,
Chandigarh, Bhopal, Trivandrum and Beijing (China.).
Swati has been awarded the title of Sangeet Kala Ratna by the Matri Udbodhan ashram,
Patna
Presently she is working as the creative director of “GURUKUL” her dance
and music institute in Gurgaon where she is imparting training to the next generation.
